"The Paradox Of Our Age" ~ by Dr. Bob Moorehead

The paradox of our age in history is that we have taller buildings, but shorter tempers; wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints;

We spend more, but have less; we buy more, but enjoy it less.We have bigger houses and smaller families; more conveniences, but less time;

We have more degrees, but less sense; more knowledge, but less judgment; more experts, but more problems; more medicine, but less wellness; we take more vitamins, but see fewer results.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry too quickly, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too seldom, watch tv too much, and pray too seldom;

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values;

We fly in faster planes to arrive there quicker, to do less, and to return sooner;

We sign more contracts only to realize fewer profits.

We talk too much, love too seldom, and lie and hate too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life;

We've added years to our lives, not life to our years.

We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbors.

We've conquered outer space, but not inner peace.

We've done larger things, but not better things.

We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul.

We've split the atom, but NOT our prejudice.

We write more, but learn less.

We plan more, but accomplish less.

We've learned to rush, but NOT to wait.

We build more computers to hold more information to produce more copies than ever, BUT have less communication with those who are closest to us ~ and their need for us is great ... just as much as our need is for them.

These are the times of fast foods, and slow digestion; tall men, and short character; steep profits, and shallow relationships.

These are the times of world peace, but domestic warfare; more leisure, but less fun; more kinds of food, but less nutrition.

These are the days of two incomes, but more divorce' of fancier houses, but broken homes.

These are the days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throw-away morality, one-night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer ... to quiet ... to kill.

It is a time when there is much in the show window ... and NOTHING in the stockroom; a time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose to either think about this insight, or to just ignore it.

Saturday .... here my week is already coming to it's end. Boy! What my mom use to say to me was absolutely true....the older we get the faster time goes!!!

This morning I was wishing that I could see the wildflowers growing on our lot. Each year we have the most beautiful field of flowers there, and I hate it when they begin loosing their beauty. Here in the mountains we can see the gorgeous stream of stars of the Milky Way at night, ... what a site to see!!! It is just beautiful.

When we lived in the city with all of the lights, we didn't realize how much we were missing! I never dreamed that the heavens were so spectacular as they are when the night is dark. What a showcase of God's creation! How quickly we forget that beauty when we are surrounded with the business of the city ... running to and fro with the fast life surrounding us. I'm so glad we've moved to a slower pace, and have been once again set in awe of this beautiful earth & heavens.

Life ... such a beautiful thing ... so simple, yet so intricate. We are so blessed!!! So even though life goes a little faster as we grow a little older .... let's stop and look around and enjoy the simplest of things .... because it is those things that bring us contentment!!!
